The Company is pleased to advise that the Whangarei District Council have awarded McConnell Dowell, in joint venture with Transfield Services, the contract for the construction of a new bridge over the Lower Hatea River in Whangarei, New Zealand.  Procured through an ECI process, the project includes bridge approaches over geotechnically challenging ground and a new 265 metre long Bascule Bridge spanning the River. This is an exciting achievement for the Company as the new bridge will be the first Bascule road bridge to be built in New Zealand in the last 50 years. The Company is pleased to advise that the Barwon Heads Bridge project won the Victorian Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) Category 4 ( $20m - $75m ) award at their 2011 Earth Awards dinner on Friday night. The CCF, in their 18th year, recognises construction and environmental excellence by Australian civil contractors, and is the most prestigious award in the civil construction industry.
